Raine's been gaming for as long as he can remember. It all started back with his video gaming roots, and as he got older he transitioned into tabletop. A lover of all games, some of his favorites include Pathfinder, Battlestar Galactica, Magic: the Gathering, D&D Attack Wing, Regnum Angelica, and Warmachine/Hordes. Raine's been writing for many years, and loves being a part of the gaming industry.

Chris Cocks Will Kick Off PAX Unplugged with Keynote Delivery

The Penny Arcade Expo draws in huge crowds of gamers with its multiple events per year. So far we have PAX East, PAX West, PAX Australia, and recently the company started PAX South, which has been quite a hit so far. The team behind PAX isn’t stopping there, as they announced a brand new event, PAX Unplugged, taking place in November. The event will celebrate all things related to tabletop gaming, whereas the other events primarily focus on video games. To help kick off this inaugural event, Penny Arcade has announced that Wizards of the Coast’s own Chris Cox will be delivering the opening keynote for the event when it lands in just over a month.

Cocks is now the President of WotC, previously having worked with Microsoft on titles such as Halo, Oddworld, and even Fable. Almost everyone in the tabletop gaming industry knows the impact that Wizards of the Coast has had in the community, bringing forth games like Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: the Gathering, and even the Pokemon Trading Card Game (a little-known fact even I was surprised to learn). Cocks made the switch to WotC not long ago, and Penny Arcade is terribly excited to have him deliver at the upcoming event.

“Wizards of the Coast is a pillar of the card, board, and role-playing gaming space, and we feel privileged to welcome them as an exhibitor to the first PAX Unplugged, and have their leader Chris Cocks deliver the show’s Storytime keynote,” said Jerry Holkins, co-founder, Penny Arcade. “As massive fans of their work, as well as the other incredible properties Chris has contributed to over the years, we’re looking forward to his address in the City of Brotherly Love when PAX Unplugged kicks off this November.”

Tickets for PAX Unplugged are still on sale, and you can get your own here. Three-day passes are a cool $60, whereas single-day badges are $25 each. I am looking forward to seeing how PAX Unplugged impacts the tabletop community. I don’t think any event could rival what Gen Con gives us each year, but adding to the convention list and spreading events out across the year, PAX Unplugged seems like a great way to round out the gaming year. Many titles release right after Gen Con, so this event could be a very great way to put those titles on display right before the holiday season, or during it if you’re sales savvy. Many of us are anxious to kick off a great event and with Chris Cox rolling back the red curtain I am sure PAX Unplugged will deliver!
