One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Dungeon Mini, The First Real-Time Action Board Game for Tablets, Now on Kickstarter

When it comes down to it, I’m a gamer. Though we focus on tabletop games here at I:T, I’ve been playing video games for a long time. Even though I’m a board gamer at heart, when there’s a chance for both tabletop games and video games to collide, I’m all over it. We saw a huge success with Golem Arcana, and it became a favorite of mine for quite some time. In an effort to conjure up something even more groundbreaking, the team at Ynnis has created Dungeon Mini – the world’s first real-time action board game for tablets.

In Dungeon Mini, players will thwart traps, defeat monsters and collect treasure while trying to stay alive and find the exit. Wielding their mini, players will fight through dungeons with their favorite character such as an axe-wielding Dwarf melee fighter or a ranged female Elf maiden, adjusting their strategy according to the unique abilities of each hero. The Dungeon Mini game, which is designed for iOS and Android tablets with a 7” screen or larger, will allow players to explore many rooms, exploring their secrets as they try to make it out of the perilous Dungeon of Maleferus. Riddles and puzzles can be solved and monsters can be defeated using weapons or spells, all initiated by interacting directly with the figurine or using your fingers on the screen to draw spells or target ranged enemies. Additionally, characters and equipment can be personalized using card sets. The core game is single player, although there are stretch goals for multiplayer options and additional character types. Each mini represents a single playable character, and players can switch characters as needed.

Ynnis has taken Dungeon Mini to Kickstarter in hopes of raising funds to tighten the game’s details and add new characters. The campaign looks solid, and for about $35 you can get yourself a copy of the game with 1 character mini to use. Double that pledge and you can get both, and there are even tiers available to help develop the game by giving your own input! More details will come for Dungeon Mini soon, so for now make sure you head over to the Kickstarter page to check out gameplay and drop a pledge!
