Wizards of the Coast has been no stranger when it comes to content for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. With the support from players around the world, this new edition of the age-old tabletop RPG is shaping up to be the best yet. Curse of Strahd hit with a resounding welcome from the community, and running off of that steam the Wizards development team is hot to announce the brand new storyline for D&D, which will hit store shelves this fall. Introducing the Storm King’s Thunder, a brand new set of adventures in the D&D world that will test both the might and will of all heroes involved.
Giants are rampaging the land. The seas are taken up by massive beings going for much more than a simple swim. Even creatures in the skies are being bothered by giants. The peoples of the Forgotten Realms need new heroes to help save them from peril and the turmoil that these giants are spreading across the land. That’s where you come in.
You can start setting up your campaigns for the Storm King’s Thunder when the new storyline hits Neverwinter, the D&D MMORPG, this August. As for the tabletop side of things, the new adventure will be available in hardcover on September 6th, as well as a digital format for Fantasy Grounds, the online toolset that allows you to play RPG games with friends from all over the globe.
Not only did we get an announcement of this new storyline from Wizards of the Coast, but we also learned that players and fans will get a preview of the storyline through watching a web series called Force Grey: Giant Hunters, wherein some of the community’s favorite celebrities will be playing through an adventure set in the Storm King’s Thunder storyline. The web series will be an eight-week event hosted on the Nerdist website, brought to us by both the Nerdist and Geek & Sundry. The cast for Force Grey: Giant Hunters was unveiled at D&D Live from Meltdown Comics yesterday. Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project, Pitch Perfect), Jonah Ray (The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail on Comedy Central), Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Program), and Shelby Fero, comedian and writer, along with Matthew Mercer and Ashley Johnson (currently on NBC’s Blindspot) of Geek & Sundry’s Critical Role and Chris Hardwick (founder of Nerdist and host of Talking Dead and @Midnight).
Be sure to tune in to Nerdist later this summer so you won’t miss out on a preview of this upcoming storyline. It seems like a giant ton of fun (See what I did there?), and with these colossal beings in the mix there’s sure to be some story elements that will turn players on their heads. I can’t wait to see the Force Grey series, and I promise it has nothing to do with wanting to watch Ashley Johnson. Grab your gear and get ready for thunder!
