We have shared in the past about an amazing RPG system called Tavern Tales, a storytelling driven RPG that lets players bend the rules of normal RPG’s by allowing what many do not. Want to ride into town on a dragon? Want to BE a dragon? It can happen in Tavern Tales! Previously only available online, Dabney Bailey has taken Tavern Tales to Kickstarter to further improve the game and offer it in a physical book format.
Combat, exploration, and interaction are well balanced in this game, whereas many RPG’s focus heavily on combat only. While Bailey has gotten tremendous feedback on the RPG itself and has handled all the writing of the game, he needs the gaming community’s help and trust to get the hardcover version into reality, including having some great artwork made. The final book will have at least 250 pages plus an almost endless supply of options for character creation, including a really cool impenetrable barrier that can be designed/imagined by the player according to their character and play style. Guidelines for Monsters, Items, Locations, and NPC’s will be included as well. The game uses a 3d20 system where most frequently you will use the middle result, but some encounters will require you to use the lowest or highest. It is definitely a new twist, and easy to learn.
The Kickstarter offers various perks such as getting to design a magical item that will be listed in the book, or you can design a monster, event, location, etc. You can even play an RPG session with the creator of the game! If successful, Bailey hopes to add more content to what already exists in the Tavern Tales system, including a sample adventure, and even a sci-fi expansion. A pledge of $50 will get you the hardcover book as well as the PDF, a thanks in the book, and all stretch goals they may hit. Check out Tavern Tales for a brand new RPG experience that can molded exactly to your liking.
