Wizards of the Coast has been rolling along with the updates to Dungeons & Dragons, and the kickoff for 5th Edition has been quite a success. A lot of players have returned to the series with this new iteration and plenty of new players have also joined in the fray. For veterans of the D&D universe, however, sometimes it’s nostalgic to relive old adventures in familiar places. One such familiar place is Castle Ravenloft, which Wizards of the Coast has just announced as the main setting point for a brand new adventure for the RPG, entitled Curse of Strahd.
With this new adventure for D&D 5th Edition players will once again visit the land of Barovia. The new antagonist, Strahd von Zarovich, is a powerful and mysterious figure whose authority commands a certain level of fear and respect. The people of Barovia live in constant fear of the wolves and other horrors that serve Strahd’s ill will, all while being melancholy and misshapen. In this darkened land, the heroes’ only hope is to heed the warnings of the fortune teller Madam Eva. Though shrouded in mystery, Madam Eva directs the heroes’ fates by drawing random cards from her tarroka deck. She leads the heroes into Castle Ravenloft in search of artifacts and much more, all in efforts to overthrow Strahd and his regime.
Players will be able to dive right into Curse of Strahd when it releases on March 15th. In accompaniment of this new adventure, Gale Force 9 will be releasing a physical tarroka deck of cards for use alongside the book. By using the tarokka deck to randomize locations within the adventure, Dungeon Masters can customize each party’s exploration of Barovia, allowing Curse of Strahd to be replayed for years to come. With Strahd waiting, what will you cling to when the darkness of Barova overtakes you?
