Gen Con 2015 Day 2 Recap – With Kae

Signage on Capitol Ave

Signage on Capitol Ave

Day 2 of Gen Con (thankfully) didn’t start as early as day 1 did! We poked around a lot more today and saw some cool stuff, talked to some cool people, and have some things to share with you!

WARPO

First off, we went and spoke with Warpo again! We visited them last year shortly after their Kickstarter campaign ended and got to see the first run of their retro action figures for the Legend of Cthulhu game line. This year, they had a nice-sized booth, all of their product in fancy packaging, and some other awesome goodies including large 12″ Cthulhu figures, coloring books, and the opportunity to take photos with…you guessed it, Cthulhu! They told us that they have some other toy lines coming up but can’t talk about them yet, but we can assure you that we’ll let you know when we do!

Plaid Hat Games

The artist for Dead of Winter and Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn was at the Plaid Hat Games booth available for signing games today. We picked up a copy of Ashes, and I got the plushies I’ve been debating purchasing for quite a while. I’m not sorry!

Something I was very excited about was to see the display of the models from the next game coming out in the Mice and Mystics universe, Tail Feathers! My photo does not do them justice, but I am excited for the gaming world to get these to their tables.

Flying Frog Productions

The folks at Flying Frog told us about how they wanted to bring back the element of surprise to their fans. They certainly did so when they brought stacks of new boxed figures for Shadows of Brimstone! The models are the final production, but the boxes are unfinished – that is how raw these are! They are available for purchase as a Gen Con preview in their booth, and put up a display of what they brought along.

Alderac Entertainment Group

As always, the folks at AEG were excited to show off some of the new games they had at the con including Smash Up: Munchkin, Adventure Time Love Letter, Why First?, and a re-print of Junta! They let us in on some information about some newer games that are set to come out early next year. We can’t tell you about them quite yet, but we can tell you they look AWESOME!

We spoke with Z-Man Games a bit about some of the new games they have coming out, and about their recent joint venture with Plaid Hat Games! Please read PHG’s thoughts on this. Do not fret, this will work out for the best as it will give the creative team more freedom to dedicate their attention to that creativity and less on the business side of things. F2Z Entertainment will be overseeing all of these (including multi-lingual releases!) while maintaining the PHG brand.

Got to go see the folks at Table Forged, the company that brought you Iron & Ale, and they have an awesome booth setup this year. If you are looking for a fun party game where you get to give dwarven kisses and celebrate life as a dwarf, you need to check it out.

While at The Broken Token, we chatted with the owners of the company and you might soon see a giveaway here on I:T of some customized dice towers from them, so be on the lookout for that!

We expect tomorrow to be yet another fun and busy day! Make sure you’re following us on Instagram (InitiativeTabletop) for live updates from the convention!
