Wizards of the Coast has just announced Magic Origins, a brand new set for Magic: the Gathering that’s set to release in July of this year. The set will explore the origins of 5 of the most beloved Planeswalkers in the game. The aim of the set is to reveal pivotal moments for Gideon Jura, Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, Chandra Nalaar, and Nissa Revane.
Doug Beyer, Magic’s Senior Creative Director, had this to say about the announcement:
“Magic Origins is a different kind of core set than we’ve ever done before, one with ambitious story goals and deep creative impact. All core sets in recent years have had Planeswalker cards, but Magic Origins doesn’t just contain five Planeswalkers-it’s also about those Planeswalker characters. It’s about certain points in time in those Planeswalkers’ lives-the events that led them to become Planeswalkers-and is meant to set up a lot of our plans for Magic‘s future story. We’ll see these characters’ home worlds, learn about the joys and crises of their early lives, and discover how they became the Multiverse-traveling Planeswalkers we know today.”
The Planeswalker spark also lives within the many players of Magic: the Gathering from all around the world. For some, Magic has become a pivotal point in their own lives, and Wizards wants to celebrate that. On July 17th, 2015 Magic Origins will release and players will come together once again to enjoy the game that’s been a part of their life for many years. More updates and previews will release on the Wizards site leading up to the release, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.
Since I began playing Magic I’ve become more enveloped in the game than I ever thought possible. The game has brought me closer to a lot of people, and I’ve gotten involved with the storylines over the past 10 years since I’ve been playing. I’ve even embedded my love for the game on my skin! I am looking forward to seeing Magic Origins and learning a bit more about the Planeswalkers we’ve come to know and love.
