Raine's been gaming for as long as he can remember. It all started back with his video gaming roots, and as he got older he transitioned into tabletop. A lover of all games, some of his favorites include Pathfinder, Battlestar Galactica, Magic: the Gathering, D&D Attack Wing, Regnum Angelica, and Warmachine/Hordes. Raine's been writing for many years, and loves being a part of the gaming industry.

Guest Post: The Plan – Part 45: Magical Realm

Five weeks left in 2014 and I have a dozen games to play. I honestly thought I would be closer to completing my goal at this point, but these last couple of weeks have been slow going. I hope that the Thanksgiving holiday will help in getting a couple of the remaining games. In addition to working on getting those last games played, I am also trying to rate all my games – the first pass was pretty simple.

The only game off the list this week was Descent: Shadow of Nerekhall. As this is the final of the Descent expansions and since I have talked about in detail more than once, I will leave it at that. I will say that each of the expansions play differently which is a huge boon for the game. My next mission is to complete one of the campaigns.

Descent: Shadow of Nerekhall – The final Descent game off the list. The heroes managed to come from behind to win.

I tried to get Magic Realm played this week, but I ran out of time to complete the game before I needed to write this column. Just setup of this game took around 30 to 45 minutes – granted, I had to look at the rules more than once to ensure that I was doing it correctly. I plan on having this game complete and ready to talk about in the next column – stay tuned!

Magic Realm – Here is the set up board for the game. Note all the counters, chits and treasure cards for this game.

Other games played:

More games of Shadowrun: Crossfire were played with similar results. After three plays, we managed to successfully abort once and lost twice. That gives are team 2 Karma points over 5 plays. After the final play, I began to scour the internet to get some tips on how to win (or at least successfully abort) missions to get some more Karma. Since I am doing this much work, perhaps that’s a sign to how good it in.

The dreaded Deadzone update – all the miniatures for the factions are assembled. I still have the plague zombies and the terrain to complete before I can truly say that I have everything done. In any case, I have enough to actually get it to the table now if I can get a second player.

Until next time – Play a Game!
