Dragon’s Ransom Tells The Dungeon-Crawl Story…But In Reverse?!

dragons ransom

We all hear of, and play plenty, of dungeon-crawling games where we take on the role of hero, delve into dungeons and defeat the bad guys. But let’s back up a minute and look at this from the perspective of the dungeon inhabitants. What if that is their home? These ‘heroes’ come barging in and taking what is rightfully yours! It is time to fight back. Now on Kickstarter, Dragon’s Ransom is a reverse dungeon-crawling card game which reminds us a bit of solitaire.

You will face heroes that are trying to retrieve the treasure inside your home. Drawing cards and playing them in strategic order and combinations will set off large attacks and make your forces stronger. However, the heroes come with some powerful punches of their own, as some cards you draw may be benefits to the heroes. With the right combinations, you can push back the invaders and defend the…Dragon’s Ransom.

Dragon’s Ransom can be played by yourself, or with two players. I think that the fact that this game is designed to be played with a single player will be a big draw for their funding. Tabletop gaming is great for socializing, but sometimes a quiet game to yourself is therapeutic, and what could be more therapeutic than battling back pesky heroes? A pledge of $25 will get you the base game and all of the stretch goals for the game, and the project ends on November 8th. They are almost at goal, and with the time left, I’ve no doubt that we’ll be seeing Dragon’s Ransom at game tables soon. Check out the art, the gameplay, and the rules via the project page, and gather your minions to defend the treasure!
