One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Lords of War: Magic and Monsters Up on Kickstarter

Lords of War card game

When I think about feuds in the fantasy realm, I’m immediately drawn to one of the oldest quarrels in the history of nearly any fantasy game on the market: orcs and dwarves. If you’re a fantasy gamer than it’s just a simple fact to you that orcs and dwarves hate each other, and that’s that. Their feuding has gone on for eons, and no matter what setting you’re in, you can almost guarantee that if you see an orc and dwarf cross paths there’s going to be more than words and grunts – you’ll see some steel clashing.

Independent UK publisher Black Box Games released their award-winning card game, Lords of War: Orcs versus Dwarves, some time ago and it picked up a lot of fame. The game’s elegant yet intriguing gameplay drew many players deeper into the warring nature of dwarves and orcs as they met each other on the battlefield. The company is now back with their Magic and Monsters expansion which they’re currently funding through Kickstarter.

This expansion is essentially Orcs versus Dwarves 2, and adds plenty of excitement to the game. The company is asking for £8,000 to get the expansion off the ground and onto your table. If the company reaches their goal they plan to release further expansions, such as Elves versus Lizardmen 2, and much more. The stretch goals continue to see new races releasing, and if they take it far enough we’ll have plenty of stuff to build epic Mercenary decks with. If you’ve not heard of Lords of War until now, it’s a great time to get into the game! Check out the Kickstarter page for more information, including how to play the game, and while you’re there slap down a pledge!
