Fantasy Flight Games Announces New RPG Horror and Survival Line

end of the world

Good news for fans of survival and horror games of all types! Fantasy Flight Games has announced a new line of roleplaying games that will allow players to explore different survival methods and horrors of all kinds. The End of The World series allows gamers to delve into the worlds of a Zombie Apocalypse, Wrath of the Gods, Alien Invasion, and Revolt of the Machines.

Fantasy Flight is taking the idea of placing yourself in these worlds instead of creating a fictional character with which to play. These characters can react like you would, and allows you to determine how you’d actually react in these apocalyptic genres! Whether facing hoards of zombies, running for your life after the Elder Gods have been unleashed, resisting alien takeover, or battling machines that your society has built. While your characteristics are those of your own, a little bit of fantasy is allowed in the game, letting you choose positive and negative attributes, such as a Long Distance Runner feature, and Extremely Nearsighted as a negative features.

Your gear is limited to what you can find around you in real-time, which means you may be limited to the cash in your wallet, a cell phone, and whatever knives you can find in the kitchen of your friends’ apartment. There are five scenarios in every book, each of which are highly re-playable due to different players and starting gear variables. The books also provide post-apocalyptic options, for dealing with the aftermath of your chosen campaign.

The books will run for $39.95 and will be available in the last quarter of 2014. My first reaction to seeing this announcement was “how could this actually be different from other apocalyptic RPG’s?”, but I was pleasantly surprised. I like that you play as yourself and you are limited to what you can start with in game. I’m excited to see this hit store shelves, and I’m hoping to get to play in at least one of these settings soon after it releases. What are your thoughts on this new line?
