One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Initiative : Tabletop at Gen Con 2014 [Gen Con 2014]

Gen Con Art 2014

The time we’ve all been waiting for is merely 3 days away. Though many gamers are no doubt already descending upon Indianapolis today, thus Wednesday marks the kickoff party for The Best Four Days in Gaming. A tapping party for the new Gen Con beer, the Frath of Kahn, will be held right out by the convention center starting at 5PM Wednesday, and the con officially kicks off the next morning bright and early.

As we’ve been mentioning, even though we’ve had a lot of speed bumps with the office move and the craziness that has come with it, we will be at the convention this year. Unlike last year, this time around I wanted to get up a post before the convention to let our readers know what we’ve got planned, who we’re talking to, and more. This way, if there’s something you want to see or want us to cover you can comment or message us specifically and tell us. So, let’s get straight to it, starting off with who we’ve currently got meetings with this year:

On Thursday we’ll be sitting down with:

  • Mayfair Games
  • 1A Games
  • Paizo
  • Harebrained Schemes

Friday we’re sitting with:

  • Z-Man Games
  • Syrinscape
  • Hunter’s Books

Saturday we’ll be talking to:

  • Iello

In between these meetings we have scheduled we’ll be stopping in to speak with Stone Blade Entertainment, Fantasy Flight Games, and more. We also plan to spend time with smaller game companies this year as we seek out the not-so-mentioned game gems of the convention. We’ll be spending some time with Black Locust Games as well as Dog Might, so we’ll be kept plenty busy.

Of course we have our seminar Friday night, which we’ve been preparing for. We’re happy to say that we’ve gotten plenty of support from publishers such as Game Salute, AEG, and Paizo, so those who attend are in for a sure treat! We can’t wait to meet all of you who plan to attend, and it should be a great time.

Saturday I plan to cosplay (I’ve spent months working on a costume) while Kae mingles around taking part in game demos. If you happen to find me on the floor (I’ll be dressed as a splicer from Bioshock) and mention I:T, I’ll have a gift for you!

This year we plan to be much more interactive, as we’ll be Instagraming, taking more photos, and even capturing video. Our plan is to put up a video highlighting what we see each day of the convention. There will be game highlights, shots of cosplayers, and of course coverage of some of the games we play. We’re hoping to make our coverage pack a much bigger punch this year, and we hope you’ll stay tuned in. We can’t wait to see those of you who are attending the convention, and we thank all of our readers for staying with us through this recent transition. Let’s have a great convention!
