Artists of Magic: the Gathering Coming to [Gen Con 2014]

Of course, MtG players value cards for their effects and how they benefit the playability of their decks. But another aspect that collectors and players value is the artwork and how it portrays the card it heralds. So, for fans of the artwork and those who collect cards for said art, knowing that a nice handful of artists who’ve had their art featured in Magic: the Gathering will be present at Gen Con this year for autographs and discussion will be pretty exciting!

Robot Viking has uploaded a document detailing 15 different artists, and the cards they are well known for, that will be appearing at the convention. April Lee, Steve Prescott, and Aaron Miller will be in attendance, just to name a few. We’d like to mimic Robot Viking’s caution that altering cards with signatures can reduce a card’s value when trading/selling.

Most artists will be doing free autographs, but will probably be up for minor alters for a small fee. I’m hoping to chat with a few about their process when they’re approached with design descriptions from WotC just out of personal curiosity. Now I’ll be spending a couple hours this upcoming week searching for some extra cards for signatures. Are there any artists on that list that you’re wanting to meet in particular?
