One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Tsunamicon Coming to Wichita this November

Tsunamicon 2014 Logo

A brand new convention called Tsunamicon will be coming to Wichita, Kansas later this year in November. It will be taking place at the Hotel at Old Town, one of the highest-regarded hotels in the area. Prismatic Tsunami, a tabletop RPG group that’s rooted in the area and has been in operation for over 10 years, will be taking charge with the convention and is putting everything together themselves, with the help of volunteers of course.

A press release from the official Tsunamicon website has some of the details on the convention, but here’s the skivvy straight from the con page:

A brand new grass roots gaming convention has appeared on the scene in America’s heartland, organized by a local tabletop gaming organization and associated volunteers.

TsunamiCon 2014 is happening November 7th, 8th, and 9th at the beautiful and historic Hotel At Old Town in Wichita, Kansas. The convention represents the first event of its kind in the Wichita area, providing an organized play experience for tabletop roleplayers and board game and card enthusiasts, miniature wargamers, LARPers, cosplayers, and more.

The event is being organized by local entrepreneurs TsunamiCon, LLC, a privately-owned company based out of Wichita with a history of running small-scale events within the area. The project is currently being funded via Kickstarter.

As the info states, the convention currently has its own Kickstarter campaign where the organizers are looking to get funding. The campaign is asking for $5,300 to get the convention off the ground, and it’s currently at just about $2,000 with 36 days to go. The convention boasts all sorts of events from LARPing, tabletop RPG events, board game events, and much more. There’s even going to be a costume contest!

If you’re in the midwest and looking for a gaming convention to attend towards the end of the year, it’s worth checking out what Tsunamicon has to offer. You can learn more about the convention on its Kickstarter page as well as back it yourself or become a volunteer. With plenty of time before the kickoff date, I’m sure there’s plenty in store for those who wish to attend!
