Written Review – Love Letter [Wedding Edition]

A while ago, AEG announced that they would be producing a special edition of the simple card game that quickly gained popularity, Love Letter, called the Wedding Edition. This version of Love Letter features some visual changes while keeping the integrity of the original gameplay intact. Made to be purchased exclusively through AEG and only available to those getting married or attending a wedding, Love Letter Wedding Edition looks like a great gift, so let’s see what you’ll get.

# Players:

2-4

Play Time:

20 mins

Publisher:

AEG

Contents

As with the original Love Letter game by AEG, the Wedding Edition comes with

  • 16 cards
  • 13 tokens of affection
  • 4 reference cards
  • 1 rulebook
  • 1 carrying pouch

The Wedding Edition has a traditional white wedding themed color scheme, uses the same original font, and makes some minor changes to the design of the game itself.

What’s Changed

As far as playing the game, there is no change from the original. If you’re wanting more information on how the game plays, please check out Don’s review of Love Letter. The changes you’ll see in the Wedding Edition are purely visual. The bag is white and has a silky feel to it, with “Love Letter” embroidered on the pouch in a pale maroon color. The Princess card is where you’ll see the biggest changes, as she’s no longer in party garb, but in a beautiful white wedding dress. The border on the cards are now a white/silver color instead of the gold of the original, and some lace accents adorn the corners of the cards. The tokens of affection are also made with white wood.

None of the text on the cards has changed, giving you the original Love Letter feel but simply re-designed for your, or your loved one’s, special occasion.

Is It A Worthy Gift For The Newly Weds?

The color change and small details that have been added or tweaked really give a nice personality to the game. I do wish that more of the characters had been altered, even if only slightly, to better fit the wedding theme. This game also comes in a white box, similar to the size of AEG’s other micro games, but the pouch is sturdy enough to contain all the contents if you don’t want to keep the box.

In order to get your hands on a copy of Love Letter Wedding Edition, you must contact AEG with a scan or photo of an invitation to the wedding you’re attending. Once its approved, you’ll be given a link to purchase the game! Love Letter’s Wedding Edition is $10.99 and I think would make a great gift for the happy couple or as a gift for members of the wedding party, or even attendees.
