Indy Pop Con, a brand new pop culture convention launching this year in Indianapolis, Indiana, has come together with both Lambda Chi Alpha and Gleaners to run a food drive during the convention this year. Together these companies will combat hunger and homelessness all with the help of gamers, comic book fans, sci-fi fans, and other attendees. Last summer, Lambda Chi Alpha established a partnership with Feeding America and raised over 1.5 million pounds in food donations across its 200 college campuses in North America. This partnership with PopCon and Gleaners will help further Lambda Chi Alpha’s mission to end hunger.
On Saturday, May 31st, Indy Pop Con will put together an area for Lambda Chi Alpha and Gleaners to collect both monetary and food donations in exchange for promotional wristbands branded for the convention. There will be several different types of wristbands available, and the only way to get them all is donate extra goods! For those enthusiastic attendees who like to collect different pieces of con swag, this will definitely be something not to miss!
In addition to standard wristbands, several exclusive bands will be available which, when discovered, will give the recipient access to hundreds of dollars in prizes donated by sponsors of the show. “We love the uniqueness of the concept and the fact it adds fun to our food drive,” said Sandy Meers, Associate Director of Information Systems. “We look forward to establishing a great partnership year after year and making the food drive a regular event for the convention.”
It’s good to see people coming together for such a great cause, and I am certain that the food drive will be a great success. I know I’ll be bringing plenty of donations for when we attend, so meet us in the donation area! With the chance to win some prizes, collect some awesome swag, and to help feed the hungry, you won’t want to skip this opportunity. Indy Pop Con kicks off in just two weeks!
