One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Race to Make It Out Alive with Cave Escape on Kickstarter

Cave Escape

Imagine you’re hanging from the side wall of a cave shaft that leads down into a giant cavern. The earth is shaking all around you. Earlier this morning you were on an adventure with a crack team of explorers searching for ancient artifacts in a newly-discovered cavern. Now your luck has turned on you, and you’re racing to make it out of the cave network before it collapses in on you. Suddenly your team members become your enemies as you all fight for the climbing gear. This isn’t a time for mercy.

This is the synopsis for Cave Escape, a new board game by up-and-coming tabletop gaming developer Anjis Games. This is the company’s first project, and they’ve brought it to Kickstarter to get the community’s help to make it a reality. The campaign has exceeded its funding goal, and there’s just over two more weeks left until the deadline.

Cave Escape is a push your luck dice game, similar to games such as Zombie Dice and Dungeon Roll. Unlike those games, however, Cave Escape includes the ability for players to sabotage each other’s roll so that they lose it all or force them to stop rolling. Using adrenaline tokens, players can make it further faster by purchasing special dice on their turn. It’s up to you how you use your resources, and by doing so strategically you can make it out of the cavern in-tact.

Cave Escape looks like a light, fun game. Players with claustrophobia might not find the game too enticing, but I don’t see any other reason not to like the game. The components look great, even with the dice using stickers. Reward levels are straightforward, and a few people have even taken the dive to have themselves made into characters for the game. If you’re a fan of push your luck games, give Cave Escape a look-see. Just make sure you don’t get trapped on your way out!
