One of the best things about being a gamer is attending conventions. It’s great to go see games being demoed, check out all the costumes that are shown off, and especially check out all sorts of new games. When it comes to conventions one sticks out in my mind as the best, and of course that’s Gen Con – the Best Four Days in Gaming.
Gen Con takes place every year in Indianapolis, IN, not too far from our office. We get to go each year and take a mini vacation and spend time with our fellow gamers in one of the best cities in the state. In fact, according to a recent poll held by USA TODAY, Indianapolis was voted the Best Convention City in the entire country. I have to say I definitely agree with the poll.
The Indianapolis Convention Center was rated high for its being close to hotels and restaurants. In fact, many of the best hotels downtown are directly connected to the convention center via a skywalk, allowing convention attendees to commute freely and safely between their room and events. Tons of restaurants and shops line the downtown area around the convention center, making it really easy to find nearly anything you need while in town.
Gen Con is a huge event, and both attendees and businesses enjoy the traffic in the summer during each year. Restaurant owners claim that Gen Con attendees are the most polite and well-tipping visitors to the area, and look forward to seeing con-goers each time August rolls around. Gen Con will certainly be a hit this year, and with all this hype it may be the best convention yet!
While we’re on the subject of conventions, Indianapolis is hosting its very first Comic Con this weekend! Starting tomorrow, attendees can shoot down to the convention center to meet some big names in the comic book world, as well as actors and more. There will be panels, book signings, and much more for comic book fans, including a costume contest with a cash prize! For more information on the Indiana Comic Con, head to its official page.
There’s a lot going on in Indianapolis, and you don’t want to miss out. Gen Con is right around the corner, and if you have time to make it out the Comic Con you’ll be in for a treat. The weather here in Indiana may be crazy, but it’s surely a great place to be a gamer!
