One of the first things that attract me to a game is aesthetics. This especially rings true for miniatures games. If I love the look and theme of a game, I will try my best to absorb as much of it as I can. This is the case for Demigods Rising: Clash of Heroes, a strategic miniature skirmish game that’s now on Kickstarter.
During the Time of Chaos, the God of War was the supreme ruler over all other gods. His power came from the furious battles being fought across the world by the various warring factions. Eventually the wars subsided, which resulted in the Time of Peace. When this time came the God of War began to lose his power, and he grew weaker as the years went by. As his power continued to wane, he recruited his four children, the demigods, to prove themselves as extraordinary commanders on the field of battle. The demigod who emerges in victory will become the new God of War and once again rise to power.
Demigods Rising: Clash of Heroes is a miniatures skirmish game tied with board game elements. Players take the roles of demigods, each commanding armies of different heroes to prove supremacy over the others and rise to the mantle of God of War. A player has access to 20 heroes from which they can choose their army, then he must face his opponent on the sacred battleground.
Not only does Demigods Rising look amazing, the storyline is pretty badass. I mean, children of the God of War fighting to take up their father’s reigns? You can’t get much more awesome than that. The designers behind Demigods Rising drew inspiration from Chess, Heroes of Might and Magic, and even MOBA games such as DotA and League of Legends. The game is listed to have great replayability through the introduction of multiple different game modes that keep gameplay interesting.
For a pledge of $95 you can get a Kickstarter exclusive copy of Demigods Rising: Clash of Heroes. This set comes with the full boxed game, including a special God of War plastic miniature, art book, additional map tiles, counters, and much more. The game looks like a refreshing entry in the skirmish genre and it will be great for two-player matches. If you’re looking for something colorful, in your face, and backed by a sweet story, give Demigods Rising a chance.
