One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Z-Man Games Announces Spring Releases

Z-Man Games Logo

Z-Man Games has taken to the interwebs to announce a few new releases that will be making their way into the “Z-Man collection” this coming spring. These games will be available worldwide as part of the Z-Man family of games, though no specific release date has been given. So far we’ve gotten four different game announcements, so let’s take a look at them!

First up is Vikings, a game by Hans im Gluck. This is a game for 2-4 players in which you’ll lead your band of Vikings to undiscovered islands in order to expand your territory. You won’t be alone for long, however, as invading ships will break on the horizon to attempt to steal away your fortune just as fast as you amassed it. You’ll need to build quickly and prepare to defend yourself or the work you’ve done will be for nothing!

Next up is Arboretum. This game is beautiful, boasting colorful artwork that really pops. A group of 2-4 players will compete to make the most beautiful arboretum in all the land, which won’t come easily. The species of tree you choose as your staple will determine many things during the game, and players will have to manage their resources wisely to stay on top.

A new game from Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim, Akrotiri, will also be releasing this spring. Akrotiri is a 2-player game during which will take you on a voyage to paradise islands where you’ll search for ancient temples and treasures. Players will take turns placing tiles to build the game world, and hand management will be of high importance in order to be successful in-game.

Pocket Battles Confederacy vs Union

Finally there’s Pocket Battles: Confederacy vs. Union. This is a new game in the Pocket Battles collection, touching on some great American history. All three Pocket Battles will return to retail shelves once this one releases this spring, so fans of the series can rejoice!

All of these games will be available this spring, both in retail and on the Z-Man site. I’m particularly excited for Vikings and Arboretum, but I feel that Akrotiri will definitely be worth a try. For more information on these games, such as pricing and details, head over to the Z-Man site!
