Building on the work done in The Voice of Isengard chapter, players continue to battle the dark forces that are crawling out from the depths of Mordor. The next cycle is called The Ring-maker, with the first chapter, The Dunland Trap. The hero Silvan trait is getting some attention in this deck, as well as an intense scenario for those who love combat, as it is very heavy with it. Additionally, Mount, Time X, and Doomed X are all mechanics that will be built upon with this adventure pack. Among the new cards in this deck will be a new Silvan hero, as well as three of each of the player cards.
In effort to link the Elves in the card game to their race in the story, they had to find a workable mechanic. Elves strike with great force and then fade away to return to defending their realms. Cards with the Silvan trait would naturally, then, have great power upon coming into play, but low health values to remove them from play. The events in this game allow you to return a Silvan ally from play to your hand to search your deck for another Silvan ally, and then play it. This is meant to build on itself to trigger these effects over and over again. This differs greatly from other race and faction traits which encourage getting as many allies on the board as possible, and some may find this to make their decks more fluid.
Galadriel’s husband, Celeborn, joins the fight as the new hero in this pack, bearing the brunt of the Leadership circle. Upon entering play, any Silvan allies controlled by any player gets some boosts to their willpower, attack, and defense stats, which could make a great difference in the heat of battle. Celeborn certainly builds upon the improved Silvan trait and brings them together into a solid deck.
Other mechanics will be addressed in future previews of the adventure pack, so stay tuned! The Dunland Trap is set to see shelves in the second quarter of 2014. The White Wizard needs your help in discovering the key to overcoming the darkness that is spreading over Middle Earth!
