Plaid Hat Games Posts Preview For Dead of Winter

For those that don’t know, you can pre-order Dead of Winter : A Crossroads Game at the PHG store, and when you do, you can cast your vote for the next Crossroads game theme. The options are Lost in Space (with 36% of votes so far), Feudal Japan (24%), Deep Underground (21%), and Summer Camp (19%). Late last week, Plaid Hat Games presented a preview of the Crossroads cards and how they affect the game.

While Crossroads cards may not be triggered often, they can drastically change the outcome of the game, depending on the character. For this preview, the character example used is Bev Russell, a mother figure. While in game, the person to the current player’s right will draw a crossroads card, and watch for the trigger, which will be italicized at the top of the main text of the card. If at any point during that player’s turn, if the trigger is set, the crossroads card goes into effect and is read. The player will choose one of two options on the card as a solution to the situation, and each one will determine the tone for the rest of the game.

Sent shivers up your spine, didn’t it? I’m anxious to see this game hit shelves and to more previews of the game, which are sure to come. Remember to get your pre-order in through the PHG webstore to get 20% off of the game and cast your vote for the theme of the next Crossroads game. Do you have what it takes ; physically, emotionally, and mentally, to survive the dead of winter?
