One of Raine's biggest hobbies has always been gaming. It all started with an Atari and spread out to Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: the Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons. As an artist, Raine takes pride in painting models for games as well as making his own terrain. He's also been a writer for many years, working both in the journalism industry and writing pieces of fiction. He decided to create Initiative : Tabletop as a platform to talk about all things gaming that he simply thought were cool, and reviewing games became a part of it!

Pyre Studios Taking Limited Pre-Orders on NPC Encounter Dice, Updates Production Schedule

Encounter Dice

Pyre Studios’ Encounter Dice have successfully funded via Kickstarter. The dice pack, which allows you to randomize characters, quests, and more, met its goal about 4 times over, and then some. Stretch goals were achieved, adding more dice to the bunch, and now Pyre Studios is ready to take things to the next level.

The company has just announced that the NPC Encounter Dice is now available in limited quantities for pre-order. Here are more details from the update:

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the NPC Pack, funded via Kickstarter, is now available in limited numbers for pre-order. In addition I have also made the eight individual dice, currently in production, available.

Please note that they will be shipped from the 14th of December and should therefore be in UK and EU destinations in time for Christmas. Regrettably I can not guarantee delivery in time for those in ROW destinations.

In another update posted on the Kickstarter page, we get to see the next two dice the company has ready for production. First up is the Treasure die, which has an amulet, weapon, armor, ring, staff/wand, and tome on its faces. Next is the Quest Type die, which has clear, rescue, explore, locate, and escort & defend. These two dice will be a great addition to the pack.

Finally, Pyre posted their current schedule, which looks something like this:

  • Questionnaire issued – 99% complete: 2 surveys outstanding

  • Orders for T-Shirts and Art Cards placed by 11th of November – Artwork ready. Awaiting final numbers via the Survey! This can slip until the 15th with no impact to delivery in the first week of December.

  • Artists to complete the Social position dice artwork and any Your Face Here rewards by the 15th of November – On Target: Your Face Here art forecasted to be complete by the 13th/14th of November.

  • Manufacturing run of Encounter Dice in the last two weeks of November. – Confirmation of order received and delivery due by 30th November 2013

  • Shipping of rewards begins in the first week of December – On Target

  • PDFs to be issued in the second week of December – On Target

It looks like Pyre is right on schedule, and backers should be seeing their dice very soon. This is a great project, and it will be something gamers will surely benefit from. If you are one of the two outstanding surveys, make sure you get it in. We want our dice!

    Update on the Encounter DIce.

Darren, the creator of this Kickstarter, fulfilled only about HALF of his orders, leaving many contributors, especially those that live in America, with nothing. He took down his facebook page and has not replied to the many messages he has received in the months since the successful completion of the project. He was reported for not fulfilling his end of the agreement and will not be allowed to create anything else on Kickstarter.

It is a shame. He seemed very friendly in the beginning, and the product was a clever one. I am personally disgusted that he stole my money, will not send me the dice, and won’t even reply to my inquiries about it.

If you ordered dice and received them, I hope they are awesome! If any of you come across this creator in the future, you have been warned.
