Quick News Nov 2 – Nov 8

Happy Friday gamers, we hope that the end of the week finds you well and amped for more of your favorite games! We are busy preparing for Day of Reckoning at one of our local game stores, so things have been hectic! Here is your Quick News for the first full week in November.

Release Announcements

  • Z-Man Games announced many Essen games, and placed their release dates all on one page, so you know how to budget for the next few months!
  • Cryptozoic just released their game based on True Blood, the hit HBO vampire show, called Night Eternal.
  • Gameplay videos of Ascension Online has been posted on the original crowd-funding page!
  • LCG Draft packs for games like Netrunner and AGoT are coming soon from Fantasy Flight Games for those that want to put their skills to the test!

Kickstarters / Crowdfunders We Like

  • Ever wonder what elementary school quarrels would’ve been like if we’d been a bit more strategic? You can find out with Studio Cypher’s Tattletale, which ends on November 29th.
  • The Ancients meet the inhabitants of the Wild West in Shadows of Brimstone, a dungeon-crawling type board game by Flying Frog Productions.
  • Iron & Ale, the dwarf-themed drinking adventure has been re-launched on Kickstarter as well, with plenty of stretch goals to aim for. If you like dwarves, check out Table Forged LLC’s card game!

What We Are Playing

  • Christina and Jacob have both been busy, getting Pandemic, Resistance, and The Little Prince to the table this week! Monsters and Maidens got another play as well as Bears!, Gub, and Tales of the Arabian Nights. We can’t seem to get enough of that game! In efforts to learn more about the game, a lot of Warmachine has been played as well.

  • Speaking of which, Raine is still hard at work at a second scenario board for miniature wargames. Kae has even helped out on this one!
  • Some Sunday Miniature games took place last week, in which both Kae and Raine fielded their vastly different Cryx armies against both Scyrah and Khador.
  • And lastly, all-out war occurred last night Raine, Kae, and 3 others at game night went head to head in 5-player MtG Commander!

Other Tasty Bits

  • If you’ve ever wanted to host a party with a Settlers of Catan theme, the food portion of the planning has just been made easier. Wood for Sheep : The Unauthorized Settlers Cookbook not only provides tabletop related recipes, but many of them are vegetarian or can be modified to fit any diet type!
  • We are hosting some demos and events at The Common Room this weekend that you should check out if you are in the area! First, euro-game master Don will be providing demos of Archipelago. Shotgun Angel Games will be present as well with our aid to play-test the Proteus Engine RPG.

We hope you were able to keep up with our posts throughout the week and are excited about the games that are coming. As we near closer to the end of the year, we are working on putting together our Top Games of 2013 posts, and it has already been difficult. Expect more reviews next week, and as always, happy gaming!
