As with each new set that releases in Magic: the Gathering, there are special release promo cards that are only obtainable by participating in certain events. Some can be picked up by buying Booster Boxes of the latest set, while others are earned by taking part in Friday Night Magic, Game Day, and many more events. Wizards of the Coast has just revealed the promo cards we’ll be seeing in the upcoming Dragon’s Maze set as well as some new tokens that will make their appearance.
We’ve already found out about Render Silent, the new buy a Box promo card. I mentioned in my post about its announcement that I believed the artwork could have used more polish and that I’d like to see the regular version, which I believed would be better. As far as my assumption goes, I feel I was correct as Wizards also previewed the regular Render Silent that we can get from packs.
We also already know of the alternate art Maze’s End and foil Plains that players will get from participating in the set’s Prerelease event. Maze’s End is another card that, once I saw the original art on the regular version of the card, I liked the original much better. Unlike Render Silent, however, the promo Maze’s End still has great art on it.
The first of the new promos we got to see is Breaking and Entering. This new split card will definitely have an effect on fans who feel like Dimir was lacking in the last set. Breaking itself is comparable to the old Glimpse the Unthinkable card from Ravnica’s original block run. Entering, well that’s just a risky move, but it could be a massive game-ender.
Up next were the Game Day promos, Trostani’s summoner and Melek, Izzet Paragon. The Summoner is what players will receive for participating and Melek will go to those who can Top 8 their event. Finally a couple of new tokens were revealed, which you can see below. I’m excited for all the promos, but I really have my eye on Melek. I need to get ready for Game Day so I can snag a copy for myself!
