Kickstarter Preview : Dragon War – Riders of Ashara

Today we wanted to share with you a little bit about a game that will be making an appearance soon on Kickstarter: Dragon War – Riders of Ashara. From a startup game company called Artisan Games, Dragon War will bring dragon miniatures and their famed riders to your table. The hook for Dragon War – Riders of Ashara is as following:

Ashara, being the known lands of the kingdoms of mankind is at war. The year is 1448, being the 120th occurrence of the year of the Falcon in the Zodiac of Shen. Nations battle for conquest, glory, and power. Dragon riders, highly trained warriors and the pride of their nations, sit atop powerful dragons to do battle with one another and defend against threats from the skies, lands and seas of Ashara. Dragons fight with tooth, claws and their mighty breath weapons of fire, ice, lightning, poison, acid, wind or the mysterious life stealing power of the rend. Choose your dragon and the nation you defend as you take to the skies from the back of a young and agile drake or an ancient and powerful wyrm. Or, choose to register as one of the many mercenary wings, small bands of dragon riders fighting for the highest bidder or for your own personal crusade. The time has come for heroes and their mighty steeds to take to the skies. This is the age of the Riders of Ashara.

Whether you find a faction worth fighting for, your you have your own cause, mount up with a hero and a dragon. The miniatures are interchangeable for varied gameplay. Depending on how big of a game you want to create, each player can control one dragon/rider combo or many.

Players can go head-to-head with their opponents, or play cooperative missions. There is also a campaign mode in the game that players can follow and level up their dragons and riders as the game goes on.

Timothy Gerritsen, the man behind Artisan Games, has many years of game development under his belt and is excited to bring Dragon Wars to life after a decade of working on it.

“I’ve been working on this concept on and off for almost ten years, but my focus was on my work in video game development, so my personal progress was incredibly slow. As a history buff and avid tinkerer, a part of my heart has always been in making table top games and Kickstarter gives me the change to finally bring one of my visions to gamers’ tables. While there are other table top flight combat games on the market, I feel I’ve put together something with a different focus. I’ve striven to create a meticulously detailed world of dragons and kingdoms influenced heavily by real world history, legends and mythology. I can’t wait to share these places, riders and dragons with gamers everywhere via Kickstarter.”

Dragon Wars – Riders of Ashara will be hitting Kickstarter towards the end of May, at which time we will send out alerts and update this piece with a link. Dragon Wars is for ages 13+ and can be played with up to 4 players. Gameplay will be approximately 60-90 minutes per game. Check out the website for more information on the game.

The Kickstarter will feature stretch goals including new dragons, new riders, and so much more. If funding is successful, Artisan Games and its debut game will be released in early 2016.

Dragon Wars – Riders of Ashara looks really fun and I’m excited to see more about gameplay after the project goes live. I’m a fan of all things dragon. so naturally this caught my attention very quickly. I like the versatility of the game, having competitive and cooperative modes and the campaign mode seems promising. Perhaps there will be extended campaign settings with stretch goals, or even a way to create your own campaigns? We’ll see! Check back later this month for links to the live Kickstarter project.

Any idea what the price point is going to be like? Some of these minis games are going for big money.

I’m not certain, but I will send that question off to the creator and get back to you!
